(WBZ) BOSTON The World Series is certainly the hottest ticket in town, and many charities are using the opportunity to earn some extra cash.

One organization hopes their ticket raffle will help victims of domestic abuse.

World Series tickets are going for phenomenal amounts of money, and the people who profit are the ticket re-sellers.

So, a local battered woman's agency decided to do the same thing, only this time, the proceeds go to help women in need.

Bonnis Mojica paints a nice domestic picture with her children, Anthony and Nicole, but it wasn't long ago when she was a victim of domestic violence.

"My husband tried to kill me with my kids," she said.

He filled their car with gasoline and was going to light it on fire. Luckily, they escaped and moved from Puerco Rico to Massachusetts where Mojica grew up.

Here she found help from agencies like Jane Doe Inc.

"They do a lot in our life," she said. "They help you."

But support services for battered women have taken a hit with serious budget cuts in recent years. Now, Jane Doe Inc has come up with a creative way to raise money by raffling off Red Sox tickets.

"The opportunity to raise awareness, which is what we're looking for, and the opportunity to raise money, presented itself nicely," said Jane Doe, Inc. Executive Director Mary Lauby.

The group bought two pairs of tickets from an online broker for a total cost of about $4,000.

They're selling chances for $50 each and will cap ticket sales at $1000. So instead of paying thousands or sleeping on the sidewalk for days, fans could be going to the World Series for $50 and a bit of luck.

More importantly, it helps people like Bonnis Mojica break the cycle of violence.

"I'm finished with domestic violence," she said. "I'm finish with that. I'm not afraid anymore."

If there is a game 6 and or 7 at Fenway, the folks at Jane Doe say they probably will do this again and raffle off more tickets.
