Mr. and Miss Boston University Competition Raises $2,500 for Jane Doe Inc.

On March 21, 2004, students from Boston University held a lively and alternative “beauty pageant,” coordinated by the Boston University Student Union Service Council, with all proceeds benefiting Jane Doe Inc. One male and one female student from each of the eight university’s colleges participated in the competition, which included casual and formal wear with a sense of humor, a talent section, and a question and answer session. Sophomore Leslie Stierman and freshman Clay Neal from the University Professors program won the favor of the judges and were crowned by Mrs. America, Heidi Dinan.

Classmates, faculty and staff certainly got to see another side to some of the students. And the audience was also reminded that things are not always what they seem: the pageant organizers chose to donate the proceeds to Jane Doe Inc.s' efforts to create a world free of domestic violence and sexual assault.
