Dear [Friend
or Colleague]
I have learned
about this important campaign and I have joined. I would be delighted
if you would join as well. See the letter below explaining what it means
to be a White Ribbon Day Ambassador.
You can join
by visiting the following website:

My best,
[Your name]
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
On February 14, 2008, Jane Doe Inc. will launch
the first annual statewide White Ribbon Day Campaign to call upon men
of good heart to stand up and be counted as allies against violence against
women, sexual assault and domestic violence. We are writing in the hope
that you will join as a Campaign Ambassador.
Massachusetts White Ribbon Day 2008 is part of
an international effort to engage more men and boys to help end violence
against women, sexual and domestic violence. You have already demonstrated
your leadership in this arena. You can inspire other men to make a public
and private commitment to promote respectful, safe and healthy relationships
and communities.
The crux of the campaign is for individual men
to take the White Ribbon pledge as printed above and to get involved on
the local and statewide levels. The impact of thousands of men –
heterosexual, gay, bisexual and transgender – throughout Massachusetts
declaring their commitment to this principle of non-violence will, with
your help, be far-reaching and long-lasting. Our goal is four-fold:
• Change social norms and create a social
and political climate that does not tolerate violence against women;
• Recognize and replicate the solid and powerful examples of men’s
engagement already taking place in Massachusetts;
• Focus on the critical role that men can and must play to help
break men’s silence and end sexual and domestic violence;
• Raise support for local sexual assault and domestic violence organizations
as well as the state coalition.
As an White Ribbon Day Ambassador, we would ask
that you lend your name and encourage 5 to 10 of your male friends and
colleagues to wear the White Ribbon with you on February 14th.
We also invite you to join us for a White Ribbon
Day Pledge Event at the State House on the morning of February 14. Governor
Deval Patrick, Lt. Governor Tim Murray, Boston Mayor Tom Menino, Former
Governor Paul Cellucci and Northeastern University's Athletic Director
Peter Roby will host the event.
We specifically chose to launch the campaign on
Valentine’s Day to highlight the need to combine safety and respect
with romance and love. But don't worry the event is in the morning (8:30
coffee, 9 - 10 am program) so that we don't interfere with any evening
plans!
Materials describing the International White Ribbon
Campaign and our plans for Massachusetts can be found on the website:

It would be an honor to have you join with me as
a White Ribbon Day Ambassador.
Sincerely,
Craig Norberg-Bohm
