Take
Action Today
to help end violence
against women, sexual assault and domestic violence!
Thank you for
stopping by to learn about concrete action you can take – today
or anytime – as a male ally against sexual assault and domestic
violence. On February 14th men and boys from across Massachusetts stood
up, spoke out, put on white ribbons and took the White Ribbon Day pledge.
The work doesn't
stop there. We
will update this page every month with new ideas about steps you can take,
updates on state and local campaigns and announcements about events.
We’ve developed a few
guideposts to help maintain the integrity of the White Ribbon Campaign:
• You’re
not alone. The staff at JDI as well as the Jane Doe Inc. Member organization
in your community can answer questions, identify resource materials and
offer other support.
• WRD Affiliates need to notify and coordinate with their local
sexual assault or domestic violence program about any events or campaigns
in their area. Click
here to find a WRD Affiliate near you.
• Let us know what you have planned so we can continue to show how
far and wide this effort has spread throughout Massachusetts. We can also
direct interested parties your way.
As you read through these pages,
you’ll see that some of these activities can be done on your own,
while others require connecting with other men and boys. The ideas provided
here are meant to be jumping off points. There’s no one way to conduct
a White Ribbon Campaign or to engage men and boys in conversation and
action about these issues. We’re excited to learn from you.
So let’s get started…
This month we are featuring
two Action Steps.
WHITE
RIBBON AMBASSADORS
We continue to seek White Ribbon Day Ambassadors who will recruit their
friends and colleagues to take the pledge and wear the white ribbon. Even
though the February 14th State House event has passed, you can help spread
the word.

CHANGE THROUGH ACTION
Public activities and visible celebrations of men’s and boy’s
commitment and leadership can help stop sexual assault, domestic violence
and violence against women before it starts. By engaging communities in
primary prevention, we can interrupt the social norms, such as learned
behavior about power and control, stereotypes and gender dynamics, which
result in violent behaviors including sexual assault and domestic violence.
We’ve put together a
sampling of community projects that aim to bring about social change and
help create a world free of abuse.
Click
here to read more and gain inspiration from these projects. Feel free
to repeat one ore more of them – or create your won – this
coming year.
