October 2, 2008 - Celebrating 30 years of Voices for Change: Annual Fundraiser

Thirty years ago advocates and activists in Massachusetts and across the country started speaking out against rape, sexual assault, domestic violence and violence against women. Thirty years later every state and territory has a coalition like Jane Doe Inc. that bridges the life-saving services of local programs with state and national policy, promotes best practices, conducts research, and provides education and training.

Jane Doe Inc. works with our sixty member organizations to ensure the safety, dignity and liberty of victims and their children, to hold offenders accountable and to promote effective prevention. For thirty years we have held true to our mission: being guided by the needs of survivors to create a world free of violence and abuse. Help us celebrate our accomplishments and remain a catalyst for change into the future.

The event will feature the launch of a A Public Service Announcement featuring Mrs. Diane Patrick. Mrs. Patrick has teamed up with Jane Doe Inc. to find new ways to reach domestic violence and sexual assault victims – and those around them – and to send a public message that everyone’s attention and action are needed to put an end to this violence.

October 4, 2008 - Tenth Annual Keri Sherlock Memorial Walk (pdf)

Keri for Kids will be holding its milestone Tenth Annual Keri Sherlock Memorial Walk on Saturday, October 4, 2008 to raise money to be donated to shelters and other programs that help abused and neglected children and their families. Keri for Kids is a fundraising organization that was established in memory of Keri Lynne Sherlock by her family and friends. The money we raise at our annual memorial walk is donated to various organizations that benefit homeless children and children who are victims of neglect or abuse. Keri was a very special young woman from Braintree, MA who was taken from us at the age of 20. It was her love of children that inspired us to pay tribute to her vibrant spirit and gentle soul through
Keri for Kids.

Registration fee is $10.00 and all participants receive a free tee shirt. The event will be held at Pond Meadow Park in Weymouth beginning at 10 a.m.

Money raised is donated to deserving organizations such as the Dianne Devanna Center, The Bridge Home, The Jane Doe Foundation, D.O.V.E. Inc, a shelter for at-risk teens in Somerville, and Birthday Wishes, a program that gives children living in shelters their own birthday party.

Any donation of value in excess of $100 will be listed as a sponsor on the tee shirts, which will be handed out to participants on the day of the walk. If you would like to be listed as a sponsor, please contact us at 617-459-5830 with the exact business name that you would like listed on the tee shirt. I will need that information no later than Friday, September 5, 2008 to ensure that we have adequate time to have the shirts made. If you have an item that you would like to donate for the raffle, please contact me and I will be glad to arrange to pick it up or reimburse you for the cost of shipping. The names of all businesses that donated to the raffle will be displayed at the walk.

If you are unable to participate in the walk but would still to contribute, please feel free to sponsor a participating walker, purchase raffle tickets to win lots of great prizes or you can send donations via mail to:

Keri for Kids

PO Box 850331
Braintree, MA. 02185

Following the walk, there will be food and refreshments at the Braintree Moose. All raffle prizes will also be drawn at the Moose.

Keri for Kids is a tax-exempt charity organization. For tax purposes, please make note of our tax ID#, which is 04-3517812. If you would like a receipt for your donation or have any other questions, please feel free to contact Bonnie Sherlock-Josie at 617-459-5830 or Steven Sherlock at 617-448-2285. October 5, 2008 - Stepping Out Against Domestic Abuse and Walking Toward Community Awareness (pdf)

Tri-Town DVTF is co-sponsoring a walk in Brimfield, MA. to raise awareness about the increase in domestic abuse in our state and our nation. The

interpersonal abuse of power through bullying, child abuse, teen dating violence, sexual abuse, partner and elder abuse is a community problem and we believe that it takes the entire community to support the victims and hold perpetrators accountable. As co-sponsors with the Palmer, Warren and Ware Task Forces, as well as Tantasqua HS, and local police, we welcome agencies and organizations to join us at whatever level of involvement you choose. If your organization would like to sponsor an information table, please contact us.

Tables will be set up on the Brimfield Common, along with children’s activities, entertainment and refreshments. If you choose to walk, sponsor sheets will be distributed in August. (The 1.6 mile walk will start on the Brimfield Common, follow Wales Rd. to Mill Lane, and back to Main St. and the Common.) Please join us as we continue to raise awareness about domestic abuse and support the victims within our communities.

The first Social Media for Social Change event will take place Friday, October 10, 2008, inside the Massachusetts Room of the historic Harvard Club in Boston.

Social Media for Social Change is a chance to bring social media people together, like we love to do on a regular basis, but with a specific focus on helping a generous cause.

We are raising funds to benefit Jane Doe, Inc. , a Boston-based anti-domestic violence organization.

Jane Doe Inc., The Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence brings together organizations and people committed to ending domestic violence and sexual assault. We create social change by addressing the root causes of this violence, and promote justice, safety and healing for survivors. JDI advocates for responsive public policy, promotes collaboration, raises public awareness, and supports our member organizations to provide comprehensive prevention and intervention services. We are guided by the voices of survivors.

One of the goals of Social Media for Social Change is to explore how social tools can put a spotlight on important causes and bring about real change.

October 23, 2008- DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Through the Eyes of a Child

Growing up in a violent home may be a terrifying and traumatic experience that can affect every aspect of a child’s life, growth, and development. Children who “witness” abuse are “victims” of abuse. In spite of this, children are incredibly resilient. When properly identified and addressed, the effects of domestic violence on children can be mitigated. District Attorney Elizabeth Scheibel, Northwestern District, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies at a program about the issue of Domestic Violence as seen through the perspective of children on:

October 26, 2008 - Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project's 8th Annual Halloween Costume Party

Our Halloween Costume Party is the largest fundraising event to benefit the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project. It features great music, tasty treats, an incredible silent auction and an unbelievable costume contest, with the winner receiving a pair of round trip tickets on JetBlue Airways. Thanks to the overwhelming community support, the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project's Halloween extravaganza has become THE Halloween party for the GLBT community and friends. Donations raised through the event support the programs of the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project, a private, non-profit organization, which provides emergency shelter, a 24-hour hotline, stabilization services, support, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence across Southern New England. Staff and community members work together using outreach and education to create an environment of intolerance towards domestic violence.

Do you love a good party? Help us plan and put on this great event by becoming a volunteer or Event Committee Member. The Halloween Costume Party Fundraiser is a volunteer-run event. We could use your support in a variety of areas, including decorating, finding silent auction items, selling tickets, promotions, public relations and volunteering on the night of the party.
