Violence Transformed Art Exhibit (pdf) - April 23-27, 2007

MOVA is excited to announce Violence Transformed, an innovative exhibition of art work which will be displayed throughout Victim Rights Week . We are proud to be a part of this unique collaboration among artists, activists, academics, museum professionals and community service providers working in the Greater Boston area. This exhibit hopes to highlight the transformative power of art and art-making as a response to violence. From shrines to peace gardens, murals to performance art, quilts to video installations, our community is remarkably creative in using art to highlight violence, commemorate victims, foster healing and imagine alternatives.

Violence Transformed in Your Community – We hope this exhibit will encourage artists, activists and community service providers across the Commonwealth to collaborate on projects in their own communities. The prospectus calling for works from artists is attached. Please share it with artists in your community and consider creating local art exhibits and projects during Victim Rights Week. Please send information about any such exhibits or projects in your community to MOVA at Kathryn.henderson@state.ma.us. We will be compiling a calendar of events and will be delighted to advertise your initiatives as well.
