Globe Writer, Partners VP Honored for Sexual and Domestic Abuse Advocacy

Massachusetts-based Jane Doe Inc. will be honoring Boston Globe columnist Yvonne Abraham, and Vice President of Community Health at Partners Healthcare, Matt Fishman, for their advocacy work for victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Abraham and Fishman will be receiving the award as part of Jane Doe Inc.’s 1st annual Spring into Action benefit.

Yvonne Abraham has been a clear and consistent voice that has helped inform public understanding and shape public policy to improve the responses to victims and advance efforts to prevent violence. Jane Doe Inc. will present the 2017 Justice in Action Award to Abraham in recognition of her consistent and fair reporting and writing on these issues.

Matt Fishman is a veteran public health advocate, and has worked to strengthen communities by improving responses to victims, furthering efforts to prevent violence, and collaborating with community health centers and other community-focused organizations to make measurable progress on public health and economic opportunity. Fishman will receive the 2017 Justice in Action Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership for social justice, public health, economic equality, and community safety.

Jane Doe Inc. (JDI), the Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, brings together organizations and people committed to advancing social justice by preventing and ending domestic violence and sexual assault. In collaboration with our 55+ member programs and numerous state and national partners, JDI creates social change by addressing the root causes of this violence, and promotes justice, safety, and healing for survivors. JDI is guided by the voices of survivors.

While spring may be eluding us at the moment, this 1st annual Spring Into Action event is designed to be a springboard for people from every sector to be a of what JDI is doing throughout the entire year to address gender-based violence through advocacy, education and prevention. This year’s Platinum Sponsors are The TJX Foundation and Partners Health Care and the Media Sponsor is the Boston Globe.
