What We Do

"Throughout the years being an active member of Jane Doe Inc. has given me the opportunity to participate in many activities to raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as the opportunity to improve my professional skills attending trainings and webinars. The tremendous impact we make as part of the Jane Doe coalition is unmeasurable for every agency, advocate, client and community member." ~ Claudia Segura - JDI Coalition Member and Advocate

100 Flags. 730 Ambassadors. 120 Affiliates. 800 seats. 10 years. 1 Goal: Working to End Gender-Based Violence.

On Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Governor Charlie Baker, Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, and UMass Boston Chancellor J. Keith Motley will preside over the 10th anniversary of Jane Doe Inc.’s Massachusetts White Ribbon Day Campaign.  Historic Faneuil Hall will serve as the backdrop for this milestone as 800 men and boys representing diverse communities, professions and backgrounds make a public commitment to reimagine manhood, to promote safety and justice and to be part of the solution in ending violence against women and all gender-based violence.

Debra J. Robbin, Executive Director of Jane Doe Inc., said, “The relevance of the White Ribbon Day Campaign remains as poignant today as when we started ten years ago. While we have made progress in addressing issues of sexual and domestic violence and gender equity and promoting healthy and safe relationships, we cannot take these gains for granted. The 750-plus individual male Ambassadors and 125 Affiliates - groups, companies, schools, municipalities and government agencies – who form the backbone of the White Ribbon Day Campaign are critical allies in our quest for safety and justice for all survivors and communities.”

Senate President Stanley C. Rosenberg, Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo, Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera,  Bank of America Massachusetts President Miceal Chamberlain, Harvard Sophomore Crimson Editor Ruben E. Reyes, and TV Sports Directors Steve Burton of WBZ, Tom Leyden of WFXT and Joe Amorosino of WHDH will each bring a unique voice as they speak to what this campaign means to them.

Jane Doe Inc. will also debut two creative productions for this year’s campaign:

  • New “Reimagine Manhood” public service announcement featuring Tom Leyden from Fox25 (WFXT), Joe Amorosino from TV7 (WHDH), Steve Burton from WBZTV-4 (CBS Boston) and Mike Lynch from Channel 5 (WCVB).  The PSA will air on all four stations during the first commercial break of the 5:00 PM News on March 1, 2017.
  • Original White Ribbon Day Pledge Rap created and performed by Andres “DraMatik” González, founder of Touch of DraMa, member of the Lawrence Mayor’s Health Task Force and Greater Lawrence Community Action Council Inc.

The program runs from 1-2:30pm and will be followed by a march to Boston City Hall for the first-ever raising of a White Ribbon Day Flag.  Full details including roster of speakers can be found at: https://wrd2017.splashthat.com/
