HOW FAR HAVE WE COME?

NOT FAR ENOUGH....

In 2006, 16 women, 9 men and 3 children were murdered in domestic violence homicides in Massachusetts.

1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18.

JDI's member organizations provide lifesaving services to more than 45,000 people each year.

Over 430 people raise funds to Jane Doe Inc. move toward a safer future.

First Lady of the Commonwealth Diane Patrick and HAWC Board member John F. Soares helped us honor this year's awardees. Patrick shared her own personal story as a victim of domestic violence, and Soares spoke about the murder of his sister Annette by her boyfriend. Through a surprise video from Congressman Barney Frank, many in the audience learned for the first time of his loss when his niece was murdered by her husband. The room was captivated by their eloquence and clarity as advocates against violence.

The reception was jam-packed with friends and supporters from all across Massachusetts. Stacey Lucchino came with Angela Menino, First Lady of Boston. Senator Joan Menard, Senator Walter Timilty, Representative Peter Koutoujian, Representative Frank Smizik, former State Representative Carol Donovan and others showed their support. Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, Boston Police Lt. Superintendent Margot Hill, District Attorney Dan Conley and District Attorney Gerry Leone demonstrated support from the law enforcement community. Former Suffolk District Attorney Ralph C. Martin, II stopped by to congratulate his former employee Diane Coffey on her award.

Friends, family and colleagues of each awardee cheered as the awards were given.
