February 15, 2018
An Act to protect confidential health care (PATCH) (now S2296) was passed by the Senate yesterday (2/14) afternoon! The PATCH Act would establish mechanisms to ensure that when multiple people are on the same insurance, confidential health care information is not shared with anyone other than the patient.Today’s vote on the PATCH Act in the Massachusetts State Senate brings us one step closer to assuring that survivors of sexual & domestic violence can access the health care they need without compromising their confidentiality or risking their safety. Next stop, House of Representatives! See the full press release here: http://static.ow.ly/docs/2018.2.14_PATCH_Senate_7jAN.docx You can find more information about the legislation on the PATCH Coalition fact sheet.
The Safe Communities Act also received a boost yesterday as the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association and the Massachusetts Major City Police Chiefs Association have both unanimously endorsed an amended version of the bill, based on negotiations with the bill sponsors.
We’ll keep you updated on any further developments.
And of course we’ll be pushing for final passage of these bills at JDI Day of Action on March 26th at the State House.
