What's Happening

"Educating our communities and elected officials about the needs of survivors in our local cities and towns requires year round focus. JDI is our pathway to informing and influencing the state and national agenda to end sexual and domestic violence." ~ Karen Cavanaugh, Executive Director of Womanshelter/Companeras. Vote YES on 3 to Protect Transgender Rights

Quotation Mark

Jane Doe Inc. fully supports the existing state’s transgender non-discrimination law because no one in our communities becomes less safe by laws protecting transgender people from discrimination.  This law ensures we can all live our lives with privacy and dignity.  So Massachusetts: vote YES on 3!   ~ Debra Robbin • Executive Director, Jane Doe Inc.

On November 6, 2018, Massachusetts will be the first state to have a popular vote on a statewide ballot initiative regarding the rights of transgender individuals. As of July 23rd with only 106 days remaining until election day, there is a lot of work to do as a community to protect and uplift everyone!

A YES vote on question 3 ensures public accommodations for transgender individuals, which extends further than bathrooms -- this includes protections in restaurants, movie theaters, health centers, domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers, and much more.

Jane Doe Inc. is mobilizing to ensure that Massachusetts maintains these accomodations. We are asking our members, friends, and allies to join us in taking action to make sure that Question 3 passes!

You can:

  • Exercise your voice and vote on November 6th.
  • Volunteer your time with Freedom for All Massachusetts, the campaign behind Yes on 3.
  • Spread the word! Make sure your friends, families and coworkers understand the ballot question and why it's important to protect trans rights!

You can find a Factsheet and conversation guide from JDI here, designed to provide background information and offer talking points for discussions about the transgender rights ballot question. Read up, and share in your networks!
