5th Annual White Ribbon Day Tremendous Success

More than 300 people braved the weather to participate in the powerful, energizing, and inspirational Governor's Proclamation Event at the State House.  JDI's White Ribbon Day banner hung proudly once again in front of the State House.  Special thanks to our corporate sponsor, Macy's, for helping us demonstrate the power of prevention.

2011 Data Staggering: But Hope Prevails

Massachusetts was a participant in three national studies in 2011.  These three independent reports singularly and collectively validate the effectiveness of sexual and domestic violence services. What's Happening

"Educating our communities and elected officials about the needs of survivors in our local cities and towns requires year round focus. JDI is our pathway to informing and influencing the state and national agenda to end sexual and domestic violence." ~ Karen Cavanaugh, JDI board member and Executive Director of Womanshelter/Companeras, pictured here with a JDI delegation meeting with Congressman Niki Tsongas

Reauthorize VAWA

JDI and our allies on the national level are kicking off the year with a push to make 2012 the year that we will pass VAWA reauthorization!

Thanks to your advocacy, both Massachusetts Senators have signed on as sponsors.  Thanks to you and the thousands of people who have taken action, mobilized their networks and worked so hard, VAWA has continued to be one of the most significant pieces of federal legislation to support victims, hold offenders accountable and work toward the prevention of sexual and domestic violence.

Below is the statement from Senator Brown, released on February 1, 2012:

Brown Cosponsors Violence Against Women Act

Washington, DC–Today, U.S. Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) cosponsored the Violence Against Women Act (S. 1925), which supports federal efforts to stop domestic violence, dating violence, and sexual assault by providing resources to law enforcement for criminal investigations and prosecutions, as well as to non-profit groups that provide services for victims:

“I am proud to co-sponsor the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and encourage its immediate passage,” said Senator Brown. “Massachusetts is home to many organizations and advocates that are on the front lines in assisting victims and survivors. VAWA will allow these groups to continue to make a difference in the lives of so many in Massachusetts and across the country.”
