You are invited to proclaim February 14, 2009, White Ribbon Day
With the week of proclamations slated for February 9th – 15th, 2009.
On February 14, 2009, Jane Doe Inc. will declare the second annual statewide White Ribbon Day Campaign to call upon men of good heart to stand up and be counted as allies against male violence against women. Please join by conducting a local proclamation event. We encourage proclamation events to take place anytime in the week of February 9th, 2009.
Massachusetts White Ribbon Day 2009 is part of an international effort
to engage more men and boys to help end male violence against women.
Through this proclamation event, you can invite and inspire men in
your communities to make a public and private commitment to promote
respectful, safe and healthy relationships and communities.
Level 1 - Something any individual can carry
forward
Take a Moment, something an
individual can do:
During the week of February 9th, White Ribbon Day can be recognized
at any business meeting, any community event, any sporting event,
or at a meal, where a moment can be set aside. The informational flyer
is shared, the words read aloud, ribbons are distributed.
Level 2 - Formal Municipal Proclamation
Formal Proclamation
The leadership of the town, city, organization or community proclaims White Ribbon Day. This proclamation is then communicated throughout the community
The basic steps:
• a brief ceremony is arranged
• the presentation includes three or four speakers
• an audience is invited

WHY
The crux of the campaign is for individual men to take the White Ribbon pledge and to get involved in the local and statewide activities. The impact of thousands of men from all walks of life throughout Massachusetts declaring their commitment to this principle of non-violence will, with your help, be far-reaching and long-lasting. Our goal is four-fold:
• Change social norms through public statements by men and create
a social and political climate that does not tolerate violence against
women;
• Recognize and replicate the solid and powerful examples of men’s
support already taking place in Massachusetts;
• Focus on the critical role that men can and must play to help break
men’s silence and end sexual and domestic violence;
• Raise support for local sexual assault and domestic violence organizations
as well as the state coalition.
