SUMMARY:“Transforming the Culture of ‘Power Over’: Compassionate Accountability”
DESCRIPTION:Together we can transform the culture of dominance. \nThe Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable invites you to attend “Transforming the Culture of ‘Power Over’: Compassionate Accountability” on Tuesday\, March 8 at 7 p.m. The virtual event will help participants make key distinctions among safe relationship cycles and the dynamics that occur within relationships based on abusive values of dominance and superiority. \nThe presentation will be led by JAC Patrissi\, Jason Patrissi and Regi Wingo of Growing a New Heart\, an organization that aims to facilitate respectful and ethical power relationships and communications in families\, workplaces and communities. The event will also feature break-out discussion groups. \nParticipants will leave with a sense of next steps for imagining community-based transformative justice interventions that address problematic behaviors\, without necessitating expulsion or exclusion. \nThe event is inspired by the White Ribbon Campaign\, which raises awareness about the prevalence of men’s violence against women and brings to the table those crucial to ending relationship violence – men. It’s presented by the Roundtable’s White Ribbon Group and follows the group’s successful event in March 2021\, “A Call to Families: Discussing Healthy Masculinity with Young People.” \nRegister for the Zoom meeting here. \nTo promote equitable access\, this event is hosted free of charge. Donations to support the ongoing work of the White Ribbon Group are greatly appreciated. To donate\, please visit www.domesticviolenceroundtable.org

SUMMARY:Esperanza United Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Virtual Conference
DESCRIPTION:Esperanza United is hosting an annual conference led by our Fuerza Unida Amig@ youth on February 26th from 9:30AM-3:00PM CT. Our youth leaders chose the theme\, Find your Poder\, Find your Comunidad and created our conference logo. \nWe continue to live in a pandemic where the health of our youth participants and our community is of utmost importance. Youth are experiencing ‘zoom fatigue’ and wanting to interact with their peers in person. With this in mind\, we organized a conference that is both virtual and interactive through a platform called Gather. Gather allows youth to create a virtual avatar and participate in the conference modeled after a video game. \nYouth spent nearly three months brainstorming\, designing\, and editing a virtual space where our youth and presenters could come together and feel like they were in the same room. Gather is a unique program because it allows for life-like interactions. In the program\, you are able to turn on your microphone and camera for others to see you. The catch is that when you move your avatar from a room you will also cease to see or hear the folks that leave your close vicinity. You are also able to locate people on a map\, interact with objects\, enter different rooms\, and even speak to one of our advocates in a private space.
