HOLYOKE ― New laptops are now lifelines for domestic violence survivors across Massachusetts, thanks to a partnership between AT&T, Human IT and advocacy groups working to close the digital divide.
The organizations delivered 50 refurbished laptops Wednesday to Jane Doe Inc., Alianza DV Services and other regional domestic violence advocacy organizations, part of a broader effort to help survivors gain digital access and safety.
The computers, funded by AT&T, went to recipients chosen by the groups, organizers said.
The donation was paired with an in-person presentation on digital safety in domestic violence situations.
The session walked through wireless plans, phones, apps, and software, showing survivors and the people who help them how to use technology safely, organizers said.
The effort is part of AT&T’s national campaign to shrink the digital gap by making internet access easier, more affordable and safer.
The company has committed $5 billion to connect 25 million people to high-speed internet by 2030.
